EARLY EXQUISITE Jade Carved Man Imperial Lion & Lingzhi Sculpture Chinese HETIAN

This piece depicts a smiling standing man, who is holding a Lingzhi mushroom, petting a Shishi, Foo-dog or other mythical beast who is lying recumbent on the ground. This beautiful Jade, presumably Hetian, is a yellowish whitish color, with some streaks of brown, and a high level of translucency.

This piece passes the hardness comparison to stainless steel. This fine piece, truly masterfully done, has all of the details and truly showcases the sheer beauty of the stone. This piece has become very smooth with excessive wear, use and age, almost to the point of losing some of the finer details, indicating this piece is most likely ancient. Presumably early Chinese in origin, precise age remains unknown.

Since both Chinese ling and zhi have multiple meanings, lingzhi has diverse English translations. Renditions include "[zhi] possessed of soul power", "Herb of Spiritual Potency" or "Mushroom of Immortality", "Numinous Mushroom", "divine mushroom", "divine fungus", "Magic Fungus", and "Marvelous Fungus". Very good condition with no detectable repairs. Exhibits signs of age such as surface wear and weathering.
