Porcelain items made for this Hall are marked'Shen De Tang Zhi', in translation it means "Made for the Hall of Prudent Virtue". Xxxxx: The particular colors, style, and design in this ware is traditional of very early Daoguang pieces. The motif is hand drawn and hand painted with heavy overglazed enamels.
The Imperial yellow monochrome plate is artistically decorated with precision detailing of a five-toed rampart dragon depicted chasing a flaming pearl amongst the clouds, in black with liver red on a yellow ground, shading to a pure white paste. The yellow glaze has even coloration and pools neatly around the rim at the base. The piece is overall in pristine condition, with the exception of minor surface scratches. The base of the dish is inscribed with the four-character mark,'Shen De Tang Zhi' in liver red.
Xxxxx: Note:'Shen De Tang Zhi' translates as made for the Hall of Discreet Virtue, or Hall of Prudent Virtue, the main residence of the Daoguang Emperor, that was completed at the Imperial Palace around 1831. Observation: Typical of hand-crafted pottery, there are a few normal potter blemishes, and kiln production blemishes, including warts, dimples, and pits on the interior and exterior walls.
