C1920 Imperial Workshops Chinese Nephrite Jade Carving Of A Dragon/Imperial Seal. A lovely hand carved jade figure of a mythical dragon in the form of an imperial seal, the translation of the text is unknown to us. The piece was made after 1920; it was made in the imperial workshops.
After the downfall of the imperial China in 1911 they manufactured sculptures with the same quality as before, but now for visitors. The nephrite jade is of a green and brown variegated colour. The creature is in a crouching down position. The dragon is the symbol of strength and power and brings luck to the good people. One has a length of 5.5 inches (14 cm), a depth of 3 inches (7.6 cm) & a height of 4.25 inches (10.7 cm). The piece is in great condition with no cracks or chips.
