Yellow was the Emperor's chosen color, and held high status in court ceremonies performed during the period. It represented the earth, soil and agriculture, one of the four temple colors, and also symbolized the hierarchy at the highest levels of Chinese society at the time. Such wares were reserved exclusively for the highest classes.
