A variation on the usual buttercup yellow. Judging on the colors of the embroidery silks, this is pretty close to the original color, therefore I'm guessing that this was originally made for a member of the Imperial family either for a specific festival or other event, or perhaps this might have been for a favoured daughter, because the symbols are more feminine than masculine. The embroidery is in silk twist, colors more muted than usual, and in remarkably good condition for it's age.
The gold work is still intact. The areas of water damage at the top are probably down to bad storage.
I did not cut these areas out: part of it's history. Mounted on on synthetic dupion/ on unbleached cotton twill for strength and display purposes. The panel would benefit from a padded lining, also a glazed frame before hanging.
