Antique Qing Dynasty 1800s Lapis Carved Dragon Bead Court Necklace Estate. Today I have a hand knotted Chinese lapis lazuli Shou bead necklace. This necklace is simply an amazing piece of history.
I have only seen these one other time and it was in a private collection. It is 28 inches long and has 45 beads that range from 13.5mm to 15mm in diameter.
It appears to have been restrung in the distant past, with a sterling silver clasp added. The beads date back to the early 1800's. The lapis was hand carved to have different Chinese symbols and a dragon. This piece shows its age, with some of the carvings being more prominent than others.
During the Qing dynasty only members of the imperial family were allowed to wear this type of (court) necklace. The lapis came from Afghanistan to China during the 1800's and was all hand carved for the Chinese royalty to wear. Please look closely at the photos since they are also part of the description. I will be listing more estate jewelry in the coming weeks so be sure to add me to your FAVORITES LIST!
